The face in the sand was a surrealist sculpture. Its sharp nose had rounded edges, high cheekbones and deep set, hollow eyes that seemed to stare into nothingness. The sandy texture of its skin felt rough against the touch as if it were carved from stone. Its mouth hung slightly open like it wanted to speak but no words ever came out.
